Wash and dry the asparagus thoroughly, then trim off the woody ends (approximately 2-3cm from the bottom).
In a large bowl, toss the asparagus spears with olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (400°F) for 2-3 minutes.
Arrange the asparagus in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding. Cook in batches if necessary.
Air fry for 6-8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the asparagus is tender-crisp and lightly charred at the tips.
Transfer the cooked asparagus to a serving platter and immediately sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and lemon zest.
Add red pepper flakes if desired and serve with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing.
